St. Louis is located at the confluence of two of the world's greatest rivers, the Mississippi River and the Missouri River. One of the world's most influential river cities, St. Louis has a diverse multi-cultural population, and is known for architecture, festivals, sports, historical sites, and other aspects which draw visitors from around the world. The city is named for King Louis IX of France and is famous for its multiple French and German influences as well as having a Victorian past.
The old joke goes, "If you don't like the weather in St. Louis, just wait five minutes--it'll change." The weather is unpredictable here because air masses from Canada and the Gulf of Mexico frequent the area, and you never know when they'll strike simultaneously. Be prepared for anything. Winter may bring five inches of snow one day and 50-degree Fahrenheit temperatures the next. A thunderstorm may spring up, dropping air temperatures from 90 to 70 (degrees Fahrenheit) in an hour.
